Advancing on Our Knees, a Spiritual Legacy

Posted on August 26, 2013 by Miranda

Prayer is essential to all mission. William Cameron Townsend, the founder of Wycliffe, was discussing the history of Wycliffe when he said,

“We have advanced on our knees…There’s been a lot of action as a result of our prayers, but it’s been prayer that has solved the problems…It’s been through prayer that God has raised up recruits and supplies and equipment when it seemed hopeless. And all we could do, as it were, was to march around Jericho on our knees—just around Jericho. And then finally, the walls fell and we marched in.”

What’s so awesome about Bible translation, anyway?

Posted on August 20, 2013 by Dale

One of the questions we get asked by a number of our believing friends centers around the task which is central to Wycliffe’s existence: Why Bible translation? Why not ________ (insert your favorite missionary-activity-flavor-of-the-month here) instead?

It’s a fair question, one which deserves a fair answer in return. As we mentioned in the Feast or Crumbs post, we are devoting our lives to the task of securing for others the same heart-language scripture access with which we are blessed for a few major reasons. Feast or Crumbs

George Cowan, President Emeritus of Wycliffe, is a very wise and godly man.  This video sums up the reason why Wycliffe exists and why he dedicated his life to heart-language Bible translation. (Make the jump for the video…)

Welcome to Peacocks on the Loose!

Posted on August 9, 2013 by Miranda

The Peacock family is now officially part of Wycliffe Bible Translators! We will be working with others around the world to bring the Bible to the Bibleless in minority language communities around the world. Please follow along as we start this exciting new journey.

If you’re new here, below is some useful information about how to find things on the site:

  • Both the black navigation bar at the top of the blog and the “Stuff You’ll Always See” (pages) section in the sidebar on the right will contain our static page links, including our Partnership page. Check those out!
  • The pretty, shiny buttons on the top-right of the page are for you to share PeacocksOnTheLoose with others. Hopefully, you’ll know what to do there.
  • We also have the standard search function and archives (Stuff we Wrote a While Ago) in the sidebar, if you need to find something we’ve posted before.
  • If you simply want to find our official Wycliffe partnership link, we’ve made a special heading on the side just for that.
  • If you’re interested in following our blog by email or in your feed reader (RSS, anybody?) there are links on the bottom of the sidebar through which you can do just that. (If you’re up for feed-reader recommendations, we recommend Feedly, because we find it to be pretty handy!)
  • Also, if you want to sign up for our regularly-published newsletters, you can use the form at the bottom of the sidebar. If you’re already getting our newsletter, please use the links at the bottom of the emails to manage your registration.

Thanks for visiting, and feel free to stick around a while if you want.
